TESA® Heat Reactive Tape

Tesa® HAF tapes are heat-activated adhesive films designed for industrial applications that require a strong and durable bond. These tapes are not self-adhesive at room temperature.

They are typically composed of phenolic resins, nitrile rubber or thermoplastic copolyamides, depending on the model, and are used on a wide variety of substrates such as metals, plastics, glass, wood and textiles.

Common Characteristics

  • Heat activation: They require specific temperatures (typically between 90 °C and 220 °C, depending on the model) to activate.
  • High strength: They offer excellent resistance to ageing, chemicals and extreme temperatures.
  • Flexibility: Thanks to components such as rubber, they maintain their elasticity after curing.
  • Unsupported or with liner: Many versions are unsupported and are protected by a paper liner to facilitate cutting and die-cutting.

Aerospace industry

  • Bonding of composite panels in aircraft structures: Used for bonding glass or carbon fibres in aircraft structural panels, such as interior linings or wing components, where resistance to temperatures up to 180 °C and vibrations is required.
  • Thermal sensor attachment: Attaches sensors to metal surfaces in engines or exhaust systems, withstanding extreme thermal cycling and exposure to fuels.

Automotive industry

  • Engine component assembly: Attaches metal or composite parts to engine compartments (e.g. aluminium covers or manifolds), where the tape resists oils, fuels and high temperatures.
  • Interior trim bonding: Bond technical fabrics or laminates to door panels or dashboards, ensuring durability under exposure to cabin heat.
  • Exhaust systems: Bond layers of insulating materials (such as fibreglass) to exhaust pipes, withstanding extreme temperatures and vibrations.

Electronics

  • Sensor potting: Joins glass or plastic housings on sensors exposed to harsh environments, such as those used in industrial or automotive machinery.

Composite manufacturing

  • Production of wind turbine blades: Glues layers of glass or carbon fibre in the manufacture of blades, where the elasticity of the tape compensates mechanical stresses and withstands climatic conditions.
  • Laminates for boats: Joins technical fabrics and resins in boat hulls, withstanding humidity, salinity and thermal changes.

Heavy machinery industry

  • Sealing of joints in thermal equipment: Joins materials in furnace or boiler joints, where the tape acts as an elastic bond resistant to extreme temperatures.

Applications in technical textiles

  • Flame retardant coatings: Join technical fabrics to metal structures in safety curtains or thermal barriers for high-risk environments.
