TESA® Masking Washi Tapes
Washi tapes for professional masking have a reduced thickness of 80 to 110 μm, thinner than conventional crepe paper tapes. This makes them an ideal choice for high-precision applications, being especially useful in sectors such as automotive, marine, wind energy and construction, providing a smooth surface that ensures crisp, clean paint lines.
‘’From yachts to trains, trucks and special vehicles: tesa® masking tape 4342 is designed to meet the painting requirements in the shipbuilding industry and in the transport sector in general.‘’
TESA® Precision Mask 4342 – Washi tape for clean painting edges
The backing of the 4334 tape is made of Japanese washi paper, which is extremely thin and has a very low elongation. It is also highly resistant to cutting, making it perfect for creating precise masking through paint lines.‘’

Similarities
Supporting material
Both tapes are made of an extra thin Japanese washi paper backing, which is strong and allows for sharp, clean and precise paint edges. This material ensures low elongation and high cut resistance, ideal for high precision masking work.
Acrylic adhesive
The two tapes use an acrylic adhesive that provides excellent adhesion to various surfaces such as glass, aluminium, PVC and wood, even on rougher surfaces. This adhesive allows for residue and ghosting free removal.
Use with paints
Both are compatible with water- and solvent-based paints and lacquers, making them versatile for different painting techniques, including trowel or spatula applications in the case of 4334.
High precision applications
Washi tapes are designed for demanding jobs that require flawless finishes, such as two-tone masking, and are ideal for sectors such as automotive, marine and construction.
Differences
Temperature resistance
TESA® 4334
It withstands temperatures up to 120 °C for 1 hour or 150 °C for 30 minutes, making it suitable for oven-drying paint processes, but with a lower thermal limit than 4342.
TESA® 4342
It withstands temperatures up to 150°C for 30 minutes, with some sources indicating optimum performance in oven-drying spray painting processes, highlighting its robustness in high temperature conditions.
UV-resistance and application time
TESA® 4334
It is suitable for exteriors for up to 8 weeks and interiors for up to 6 months, allowing residue-free removal even after long periods of application. This makes it ideal for prolonged indoor projects.
TESA® 4342
It offers weather resistance outdoors for 3 weeks and indoors for up to 2 months without leaving residues. Its shorter application time on exteriors makes it more suitable for short to medium term projects.
Specific applications
TESA® 4334
It is particularly suitable for interior paintwork, including techniques requiring trowel, trowel or trowel, and is suitable for a wide variety of surfaces. It is ideal for architectural applications and projects demanding precise interior finishes.
TESA® 4342
It is specifically designed for sectors such as shipbuilding, rail and general transport, with a focus on spray painting and more demanding industrial processes. Its backing is strong enough to pass through multiple layers of paint, making it ideal for marine and special vehicle applications.
Easy to use
TESA® 4334
There is no explicit mention of superior ease of handling, but its design allows for easy removal even after 6 months, suggesting good manageability for prolonged projects.
TESA® 4342
It features a finger-friendly design with convenient unwinding forces for easy handling, especially in industrial applications where speed and precision are required.
